Leadership South Carolina is the oldest, most respected leadership development program in the state. Created by Governor Dick Riley in 1979, Leadership South Carolina has educated leaders for community and statewide service for over four decades. Our goal is to create awareness among the state’s future leaders of the challenges facing all of South Carolina and providing a forum for discussing solutions to create a brighter future for South Carolina through training and public service.
Each year, Leadership South Carolina selects a group of highly motivated, energized community leaders across the state to participate in our program. Our graduates include governors, statewide office holders, judges and numerous state, county and elected officials. 80% of our graduates serve on the board of at least one community organization, and 30% hold elective county, municipal office, or positions on school boards.Their class projects and public service have had a large impact across the state, raising over $600,000 in the past decade.
