Legislative Day
March 30, 2023
Leadership SC Class of 2023
Today is the day that you will visit the South Carolina State House, home to our state’s Legislative
Branch. The building itself has been through many events that have shaped it’s history – cannon balls,
fires, floods and even earthquakes.
While you may have visited here in the fourth grade, our time at the State House will be filled with lots
of walking and seeing as much as possible.
Our day begins at 8 am with breakfast for the Legislators and their staff in the Blatt Building Room 112.
Our program will not begin until 9:30 am to give you time to arrive. Please look at the logistics
information on where to park. Since it’s Thursday, parking may be a challenge.
We have requested a meeting with Governor Henry McMaster at 10 am. Following that, we will be
introduced into the House and the Senate.
We return to Blatt 112 for our lunch and to hear a panel on Lobbyists and their function. Sheriff Leon
Lott of Richland County will speak about violent crime in the midlands as well as gun control. We’ll have
time for lots of questions. We turn our attention to our state’s largest industry – tourism with an
overview by Justin Hancock of the SC Parks, Recreation and Tourism.
We will end our time at the State House at about 3:30 pm to give you all a chance to see each other and
to safely drive home.
Please wear comfortable shoes!
